June 29th, 2009 Fraunhofer to Open Research Center in Masdar City
The Fraunhofer Society has announced that it will be partnering with the government of Abu Dhabi to establish a new research center to explore technologies and concepts for sustainable cities. The center, a cooperation between the Fraunhofer Institutes for Industrial Engineering (IAO), Building Physics (IBP), and Solar Energy Systems (ISE), will be sited in Masdar City, a groundbreaking urban project designed to be both carbon-neutral and entirely powered by renewable energy -- the first of its kind in the world. June 3rd, 2009 Fraunhofer CSE at 34th IEEE Photovoltaic Specialists Conference
Several members of the CSE's research teams will be attending the upcoming IEEE Photovoltaic Specialists Conference in Philadelphia. The conference, scheduled to run from June 7th to 12th, focuses on technical innovation and development in the PV sector, and includes an accompanying trade show and exhibition. May 29th, 2009 Nolan Browne Panelist at IdeaStream 2009
CSE Managing Director Nolan Browne will be a featured panelist at the Deshpande Center's upcoming IdeaStream 2009 event. The panel, entitled "More for Less: Technologies to Improve Efficiency and Sustainability", runs from 2:00 to 3:30 PM on Tuesday, June 9th, also features contributions from CSE advisor Carmichael Roberts, Jeff Andrews of Atlas Venture, and Professor Sarah Slaughter of the MIT Sloan School of Management.

April 14th, 2009 Nolan Browne to Speak at Thin Film Solar Conference
CSE Managing Director Nolan Browne will be a featured speaker at Green Power Conferences' forthcoming Thin Film Solar Conference, running April 28th and 29th at the Le Meridien Hotel in San Francisco. His presentation, entitled "Thin Film’s Competitiveness with Crystalline Silicon", will be delivered as part of the keynote session on the morning of the 28th. March 26th, 2009 Fraunhofer CSE at BIPV Summit
Dr. Kurt Roth, the CSE's group leader for building efficiency, will be representing our Center at InfoCast's inaugural BIPV Summit, taking place from April 6th through 8th at the Hilton Del Mar in San Diego. Dr. Roth's panel, entitled "Transforming PV Materials into Disruptive Building Products", will be running from 3 to 4:30 PM on the 7th. January 15th, 2009 Fraunhofer ISE Achieves World Record in Solar Cell Efficiency
The Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems, sister institute to the Fraunhofer CSE, announced Wednesday that it had succeeded in achieving an efficiency of 41.1% for the conversion of sunlight into electricity, a world record for multi-junction cells. April 12th, 2008 National Grid Joins CSE Industry Alliance
Utilities provider National Grid
has joined the CSE as the first member of the newly-created CSE
Industry Alliance. Under the terms of the partnership, Jennifer
Zschokke, National Grid's Vice President of Sustainable Development,
will also be joining the CSE's Board of Advisors.
April 12th, 2008 MTC Becomes Founding Sponsor for CSE
The Massachusetts Technology Collaborative
has signed an agreement with the CSE, making it the first official
sponsor of the new Center. Under the terms of the agreement, the MTC
will provide the CSE with a grant of $5 million over the course of the
next four years.
